What’s All The Buzz About Honey Bee Products in Skin Care

Patrick's Honey HarvestYou already know that honey is beyond yummy to eat, but did you know that honey bees have helped us achieve healthier skin for thousands of years?  Honey has antimicrobial properties, which means it doesn’t spoil, and it also means that the antibacterial qualities in this golden goodness can be use to tame acne and oily skin.  Honey has also been used in wound healing for burn victims as it speeds up the healing process and maintains better site sterility than the most common pharmaceutical used for healing burns.  Check out this link for more information about the composition of honey. chm.bris.ac.uk

Honey contains vitamins B, C, D and trace amounts of many minerals like iron, calcium and folic acid just to name a few.  We use honey in our soap formulas primarily for its ability to absorb impurities from pores on the skin and its gentle astringent properties.  Paired with goat’s milk, honey brings remarkable cleansing and healing qualities to soaps that target acne-prone, acne scarred and oily skin.  Why not try facial a mask experiment from one of the recipes below and let me know what your results were?  You can find more great soaps with honey in them here at thesoaphag.com.

For Oily Skin: Honey-Papaya Mask
1/3-cup cocoa
three teaspoons of heavy cream
1/3-cup ripe papaya
1/4-cup honey and three teaspoons of oatmeal powder
Instructions: Mix and apply on your face. After 10 minutes, wash your face with warm water. This anti aging skin care facial mask helps heal skin blemishes, nourishes, draws out impurities, balances your skin pH, and will leave your skin radiant and soft. Good for acne-prone skin.

For Oily Skin: Carrot Face Mask
Your will need
2-3 carrots
4 1/2 table spoons of honey
Instructions: Cook the carrots and then mash them up. Mix the carrots with honey and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Apply gently to the skin and wait for ten minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Carrots are known to be rich in vitamin A and C. They are also rich in potassium. Vitamin A and C are antioxidants. Honey contains sugar, enzymes, minerals, vitamins and amino acids.
